Introduction: Seasons of Celebration

There is something about living in a new place that heightens your senses.

You notice the way the light changes. The foods that appear in markets at certain times of year. The way an entire community prepares for a celebration that has been honored for generations.

As I prepare to step into a new role in China, I have been thinking about seasons. Not just academic semesters or calendar quarters, but the deeper rhythms that shape a culture. The festivals, traditions, and stories that carry meaning far beyond a single day.

Those who know me know I love a good parable. I believe stories shape us. They help us understand who we are, who we belong to, and who we are becoming. In many ways, traditional celebrations are living parables. They hold memory. They teach values. They invite reflection.

That is why I am beginning Seasons of Celebration.

From the Lunar New Year to the Mid-Autumn Festival and the quiet significance of seasonal markers throughout the year, I will be reflecting on the stories behind these traditions and what they can teach us about leadership, community, gratitude, resilience, and hope.

My posture in this space is one of learning. I am entering a rich cultural story that is not my own, and I want to listen well. My hope is that by paying attention to these rhythms, we might all grow a little more aware of the seasons shaping our own lives.

The calendar is never just a calendar. It is a teacher.

If you are curious about the intersection of culture, celebration, and personal growth, I would be honored to have you follow along.
