In this workshop, participants explored the theories and instructional practices behind close reading and their application in both science and social studies classrooms. Teachers focused on developing students’ ability to critically analyze primary sources and informational texts, while also strengthening content-area writing skills. Through hands-on strategies and collaborative learning, the session supported educators in building literacy-rich classrooms where reading and writing deepen understanding of disciplinary content. Participants left with practical approaches to foster critical thinking, support evidence-based analysis, and engage students more actively with complex texts across subjects.
