Supporting ELLs in the Social Studies Classroom (2014) 

Presented to WCPSS middle school social studies and ESL teachers. In this workshop, educators developed the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively support English Language Learners in middle school social studies classrooms. Grounded in the NC Essential Standards, participants explored a range of scaffolding strategies designed to make content accessible while maintaining academic rigor. Through collaborative activities and applied examples, teachers examined how to structure language supports, build background knowledge, and promote meaningful engagement with complex texts and concepts. The session emphasized inclusive instructional practices that empower multilingual learners to participate fully, develop academic language, and succeed in content-rich learning environments.
